Use these questions to practice speaking while focusing on important tenses.

🏢 Third Person Simple Present

Focus: Describing habits, traits, or roles of colleagues and clients.

  1. What does a great Product Manager do to keep your team motivated?
  2. Does your current CTO prefer long-term scaling or quick feature deployments?
  3. How does the end-user usually react when the UI undergoes a major change?
  4. Does your teammate spend more time on documentation or actual coding?
  5. What is one trait that makes a developer stand out during a code review?

Past Tense

Focus: Discussing previous experiences, finished projects, and career history.

  1. What was the very first programming language you learned?
  2. Did you encounter any major bugs during your last release cycle?
  3. How did your team handle the transition to remote work a few years ago?
  4. Was your first technical interview as difficult as you expected it to be?
  5. Which legacy system caused the most headaches at your previous job?

Present Perfect Tense

Focus: Discussing life experiences, ongoing projects, or recent changes without a specific time.

  1. Have you ever worked on a project that used AI or machine learning?
  2. Has your company implemented any new security protocols recently?
  3. How many different tech stacks have you mastered throughout your career?
  4. Have you noticed a shift in how people view “agile” over the last year?
  5. Has anyone on your team tried using the new beta version of that framework yet?

Conditional Tense

Focus: Hypothesizing, imagining scenarios, and discussing preferences.

If you had to switch careers tomorrow, what industry would you choose?

If you could automate any part of your daily routine, what would it be?

Would you prefer to work for a small startup or a massive corporation?

If a client asked for a feature that was impossible to build, how would you explain it?

What would happen if the entire cloud infrastructure went down for an hour?
