Present Perfect Progressive Questions

Last week, we introduced the present perfect progressive tense (sometimes it’s called the present perfect continuous). Use the questions below to practice using this tense.

Answer the Questions

1. Have you been working on a long-term career goal? If so, what have you been doing?

2. Have you been working on a long-term personal goal?

3. What have you been doing during the last few weeks?

4. Have you been studying English as much as you wanted to? Why or why not?

5. Have you been keeping in touch with your family recently?

6. Have you been taking care of your health during the last year?

7. Have you been taking care of an elderly parent, a child or a pet recently?

8. How’ve you been doing lately?

Challenge: Describe some recent accomplishments (or difficulties). Use the present perfect and the present perfect progressive. Remember that you should choose a topic that began in the past and is ongoing.

Example: I have been working to achieve an M.B.A. I have finished my undergraduate studies and taken my first year of graduate level classes. Recently, I have been studying and working very hard. I have been working as an administrative assistant to pay for my M.B.A. During the evenings, I have been studying and writing papers. I have completed half of my overall goal.
