The Rule

When a word ends in vowel + T or vowel + NT, we can stop the T sound. This means we create a half T. The tongue goes up to express a T, but then it stops there–we do not articulate T. This also works in words like “currently” or “shortly” when the -ly ending is added. It applies to compound words like “outreach” in which the Stopped T can happen at the end of the first word, “out.”
